Artist Statement from JK Williams

"Starting in my mid-teens I began experiencing something like visions, though that is not an accurate term. They are not hallucinations but rather an atmosphere or mood that has been pervasive throughout most of my life and I believe comes from an awareness that there is some “different world”, which is to me a world of entropy and darknesses hiding terrifying and alien beauty, though I suppose it might be different for other people. Our own reality is merely an overlay through which the reality can occasionally be observed when the veil is shredded.

When I first saw the painting on the cover—done by my dear friend Alison—it felt like I was back there, in this different world, a place I hadn’t been in a long time. It was as if I was glimpsing something elemental and ineffable down in the core of myself. Immediately I knew it should be on the cover of a tape, and that I would make music as a response to this articulation of my inner self. I set about making a few improvisations with guitar and objects and fleshed them out with field recordings, tapes, cable hum, raw data, the corniest garageband samples; all of it, of course, cranked to the threshold."
